Environmental Remediation

ASBESTOS REMEDIATION

AMCS Environmental has over thirty years of combined experience in the asbestos abatement field. We specialize in residential, commercial and industrial asbestos abatement to guarantee that you, the public and our environment are safe. AMCS Environmental recommends not to have any physical contact with it unless you have the proper knowledge and equipment. Asbestos fibers can cause lung cancer, once they are inhaled the fibers can remain and accumulate in the lungs. Breathing high levels of asbestos fibers can lead to an increased risk of getting mesothelioma or cancer of the lungs and abdominal lining and asbestosis, irreversible lung scarring that can be fatal. If removal is to be performed when users are still present in the building, it is usually necessary to relocate some users temporarily. Typically, the part of the building from which asbestos is being removed has to be sealed off in order to prevent contamination of the other areas. Methods of sealing off an area often include the use of polyethylene film, duct tape and negative air pressure machines which are fitted with HEPA filters. The idea is that the contained area is pulling fresh air in as to not let asbestos fibers out into the surrounding environment. Only a special vacuum cleaner that is designed for asbestos containment (class H) can be safely used when cleaning up during and after asbestos removal. Ordinary vacuum cleaners cannot be used, even those fitted with a HEPA filter. An ordinary vacuum cleaner will expel the asbestos fibres into the room air.

MOLD AND SPORE REMEDIATION

Mold is detectable by smell and signs of water damage on walls or ceiling, and can grow in places invisible to the human eye. It may be found behind wallpaper or paneling, on the inside of ceiling tiles, the back of drywall, or the underside of carpets or carpet padding. Piping in walls may also be a source of mold, since they may leak (causing moisture and condensation). Any home or business can quickly become infested with mold with the introduction of a water source, like a roof or plumbing leak. Mold can spread throughout a property in as little as 48-72 hours, and can produce allergens and irritants that have the potential to cause other health effects. AMCS Environmental offers in-depth assessments to locate mold in your property, be it due to leaks, faulty plumbing, floods or water damage. GIG will determine the source, identify the span of the damaged areas, and thoroughly remove mold and affected debris, utilizing safe and effective products, and protecting the areas from future mold growth. The mold remediation process is one of the times when mold spores are most likely to be disturbed into the air. For this reason, you should use the proper clothing and equipment protection while mold remediation is done. The first step in solving an indoor mold problem is to remove the moisture source; new mold will begin to grow on moist, porous surfaces within 24 to 48 hours. There are a number of ways to prevent mold growth. We specialize in fabric restoration, removing mold (and mold spores) from clothing to eliminate odor and prevent further damage to garments. The effective way to clean mold is to use detergent solutions which physically remove mold.
